Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, enthusiastic and self-motivated CAD Operator for a position in our Data Service Team based at Service Headquarters in Hertford.


The CAD Operator is an integral member of Data Services which manages the production of GIS and CAD information, among other functions. The post holder will be responsible for the production of accurate, high quality plans, technical drawings, charts, graphs and other visual aids as required. The post holder will also have responsibility for assisting in the maintenance and development of the Data Team’s Management Information Systems.


Key Responsibilities of the CAD Operator:


  • Production of accurate, detailed CAD drawings in relation to fire

investigations, arson co-ordinations, site specific documents and

legal notices or proceedings

  • Survey premises when required to enable the production of accurate


  • Maintain an efficient and effective library filing system of


  • Assist with the production of GIS mapping
  • Production of charts, graphs and other visual aids as required
  • Large format printing
  • Assist Fire Safety Officers in consultation process
  • Assist System Administrator in maintaining and developing the Data Team’s Management Information Systems
  • Assist in formatting Service documentation


Skills and experience required of the CAD Operator:


  • CAD qualification
  • Surveying and drawing of buildings
  • Producing charts, graphs and other visual aids
  • Familiarity with GIS software
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure when necessary
