Environmental Health Team Leader

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Medway Council’s Environmental Health (Food and Safety) team for a dynamic person to manage and lead the team of dedicated professionals.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Environmental Health officer with excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgement to lead this team and deliver on Medway’s statutory duties. We offer a flexible working environment and this is an opportunity to bring new ideas to the table, inspire and lead the team to influence how the service is best delivered.

You will meet the requirements to be Medway’s Lead Food Officer (In line with current Food Standard’s Agency requirements), and will lead on design and delivery of the service plan, budget monitoring, allocating work, managing the team in its responsibilities relating to food safety, health & safety, port health, communicable disease control, licensing and associated environmental health matters.

You will oversee the food hygiene and standards inspection program, Covid Track and Trace, complaints, infectious disease investigations and sampling - taking appropriate enforcement action where required. Providing advice and guidance to our businesses will also form an integral part of your work.

You will also manage a team of suitably qualified officers who inspect a variety of workplaces, under legislation relating to health and safety at work, including the investigation of complaints, accidents and dangerous occurrences.

This is an excellent career development opportunity for the right candidate. Graduate Environmental Health Officers and/or those returning to the profession are welcome to apply (provided the essential criteria are met). Experience of team leading and supervising officers is essential.

You must hold a full driving licence and will require your own vehicle for business use.

This post is a full time role.

Applicants for this post must hold/have the following:

  • A relevant degree in Environmental Health (or equivalent) plus EHRB registration.
  • Recent, relevant, regulatory experience within a local authority, including food hygiene inspections, interventions and investigations.
