The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) was formed in 2017 to bring the region together to drive economic growth. Working with our councils, we are making decisions about those important things that affect our residents every day – transport, homes, jobs and skills - decisions previously made by central Government, ensuring that the West of England continues to be a thriving, successful and innovative place for future generations.  

WECA has just embarked on an ambitious journey to evolve its Geographical Information System (GIS) infrastructure and enhance its corporate GIS skills as part of a wider ambition to create a corporate data platform. This platform will help us analyse more efficiently the way issues manifest spatially, communicate the spatial implications of our strategies  internally and to our external stakeholders including member of the public, target our interventions to the most economically-affected areas.

The key purpose of this position is to lead on the delivery and development of a WECA Geographical Information System (GIS), as part of our wider corporate data platform.   

Reporting to the Service Lead – Digital and Technology, the GIS & Data Manager will have a pivotal role in leading and managing the development of our GIS infrastructure while keeping up-to-date with the latest GIS innovations, upskilling and training GIS users acting as an ambassador of GIS across the organisation to ensure that we leverage the potential offered by GIS, and producing the most complex data analyses.

For this role, a strong technical GIS expertise combined with a collaborative and pragmatic approach will be paramount, with a focus on making things happen. The post holder will be a proactive self started, with a track record of successfully managing GIS databases, engaging with multiple internal and external stakeholders to promote the use of GIS across the organisation and beyond.
