Social Worker Grade 8 (subject to successful completion of ASYE if applicable)
This post will be based in the Review Team with a primary focus on High Cost Reviews. The focus of the role will be on completing comprehensive reviews of both the needs and the commissioned care of some of our most complex customers with a view to identify savings for the council and improving outcomes.
We are looking for an experienced social worker who has worked in local authority settings to join our expanding Review Team, based in Wokingham. We are a small close knit team of Social Care Practitioners and Social Workers with a focus on completing the annual reviews of support provided thorough Wokingham’s Adult Social Care Services. This includes Wokingham residents with support needs due to physical disabilities, learning disabilities and frailty; some with additional mental health needs. Although based in our central Wokingham office, we are able to work remotely and use Microsoft Teams to maintain our close contact and dialogue as a team.
We are a busy team looking to increase further the scrutiny on packages for our most vulnerable customers to ensure that their support remains of a high quality, meets all their eligible needs and represents the best use of the council’s funding resources whilst utilising both their own strengths and the community resources in their local areas. There will be an expectation to make savings on council spending where this is identified to be appropriate.
You will need to have post-qualifying experience of local authority settings and completing assessments and reviews under the Care Act, including completing Mental Capacity Assessments and Best Interest Assessments.
The role will require you to review some of our more complex and costly packages of support including some with shared care elements e.g. shared occupancy placements and health funded elements. You will be supported by close working where necessary with our Quality Assurance Specialist People Services, Commissioning Services, Occupational Therapy Team and TEC Team (Assistive Technology to aid assessment and independent living) as well as having strong line management support and monthly supervision.
You will need to be confident advocating for the most appropriate support for those on your caseload, challenging when necessary if needs are not being met or identifying any possible safeguarding concerns.
As a Social Worker, you will link up with other qualified Social Workers within Adult Social Care for CPD opportunities by way of our regular forums and training. You would also be eligible for other benefits available to WBC employees including reimbursement of some or all of registration fees with Social Work England depending on length of employment.
We offer opportunities for home working (particularly important during the current pandemic) and can negotiate flexible working hours to offer the best work/life balance.
Wokingham Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff, other workers and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful candidates for this role will be subject to Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks along with other relevant employment checks.
Wokingham is an equal opportunities employer
