The AMHP team within the Adult Social Care (ASC) directorate at Surrey County Council (SCC), is seeking to appoint a qualified approved mental health professional (36 hours per week). The role is based in Redhill RH1 1TA. The annual salary starts at £40,227, supplemented with an annual allowance of £1,500.

About the role

This post offers an exciting opportunity for an Approved Mental Health Professional to join a small supportive team covering the East region of Surrey. It is a perfect opportunity for those looking to concentrate upon and develop their skills and knowledge in: risk assessment and management of people in crisis; working with partner agencies to resolve crisis; applying legal frameworks in often complex situations; striking the balance of ensuring people rights whilst promoting individual's safety and that of others. We are committed to promoting your development and interests in this complex field under supportive leadership. You will have regular supervision and be part of an experienced and supportive team. Regular legal update training is available throughout the year to maintain your approval and to promote your knowledge of the field.

About you

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join us. To be shortlisted for an interview your application and supporting statement will clearly evidence:

  • Willing to maintain personal Approved Mental Health Professional status (Warranted)
  • Professional Qualification in Social Work
  • Post qualifying experience that should include direct work with those who have mental health needs
  • A current full driving licence and have use of a vehicle
  • A good working knowledge of the legislation pertinent to the field of mental health; confidence in adult safeguarding responsibilities with a sound understanding of responsibilities towards the welfare and safeguarding of children and young people; robust skills in risk assessment and management
  • A minimum of two years' experience as an AMHP. However, those who have fewer with clear capability may also be considered
  • Commitment to your own professional development, including maintaining up-to-date knowledge of mental health issues
