School Buildings and Organisation Officer

About Us

The Church of England is a major provider of schools and academies, with about 25% of the nation’s schools. There are 139 church schools in the Diocese of Chelmsford across East London and Essex. Our mission is to ‘promote life in all its fullness through Education across Essex and East London’ rooted in Christian character. The Diocesan Education Team is vibrant, talented and highly motivated.

About the Role

The role of the Buildings and Organisation Officer is to support this estate; and prioritise, organise and commission building projects in our Voluntary Aided schools and account for expenditure to the Department for Education. The role holder is also responsible for the practical management of school property and estate held by the diocese and the stewardship of various trust income streams.

You will accompany schools through academisation processes and work with local authorities and multi-academy trusts in dealing with expansion plans, commissioning of new schools and, if necessary, school closures.

About You

It is recognised that the successful candidate is unlikely to have experience in all these fields, so we are looking for transferable skills, initiative and commitment to the role. The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in providing the best for the children served and energy for the department’s mission. You will be skilled in financial management and reporting, project commissioning, communication with all stakeholders and be comfortable with responsibility and initiative taking.

We offer an exciting range of benefits: a competitive non-contributory pension scheme, free parking and an initial annual leave allowance of 25 days plus 8 bank holidays pro rata (rising to 29 days after five years’ service). We are open to explore some flexibility in working arrangements with the successful candidate.

Closing date: Midnight on Sunday 22 November Provisional Interview Date: Monday 30 November (assessments to take place on Wednesday 25 November)
