Hertsmere is located in southern Hertfordshire and is an attractive environment in which to live and work. It adjoins Greater London and has excellent road and rail links making London and the Home Counties easily accessible. Hertsmere is known as a centre for Film and TV, being home to Elstree Studios (owned by the Council), as well as BBC Elstree and is the location for a proposed new studio development by Sky, due to be operational by 2022.
Hertsmere Borough Council is bringing forward an innovative growth programme delivered through a new Local Plan. We are working closely with our public and private sector partners to deliver new growth opportunities in our towns and villages. These additional posts will be key appointments within our Planning and Economic Development Service, given the scale of our ambition and expected growth.
As a key member of the planning team you will play an important role in ensuring new development within Hertsmere is carefully controlled. The successful candidate will work with a small team delivering excellent planning enforcement outcomes set around a Green Belt environment.
About the role
We are looking to appoint a motivated and ambitious person to join the team.
Joining the service now, you will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of planning enforcement work, working across the Council on new initiatives to improve the environment.
Our career grade scheme applies to this post providing sponsorship for an RTPI accredited Planning qualification and enables accelerated pay increases and movement through the Council’s pay structure.
If you are looking to start your career in Enforcement and want to undertake an RTPI accredited Planning course we will support you via an apprenticeship scheme. Applicants at this level can expect a starting salary of £24,979 per annum. If you already have an appropriate qualification and relevant experience you can expect a starting salary from £28,401 per annum.
You will be degree qualified, ideally in planning or a closely related discipline, and experience of implementing legislation would be desirable. You will need to be analytical with good judgment and able to work on your own initiative. Some knowledge of planning would be an advantage.
This post is offered on a full time, permanent basis (36 hours per week).
