Autism and Complex Needs Specialist

Halton Borough Council are looking for a new Autism and Complex Needs Specialist required to help meet the needs of children with physical and medical, complex and autism needs in early years and primary settings.

This a new role developed within the SEN Service. The SEN Service provides support to schools and nursery settings with a range of special educational needs requirements. Due to growing demand for our service, particularly in the early years, there is a need to recruit an additional member of staff to work peripatetically across the Borough. The service also provides training and development opportunities to schools and early years settings across Halton.

We are seeking to appoint someone with a recognised qualification in education or Health e.g. Teaching or Early Years Education or a therapy background (e.g. Speech and Language Therapy), with excellent understanding of the EYFS and KS1 curriculum.

As well as this, you will have a proven track record of working in either early years or school settings, successfully planning and delivering evidence based interventions related to complex needs and/ or autism. You should have recent, successful experience of delivering training to settings.

You should be solution focused in your approach to supporting children and young people, and have an unconditional positive regard for children and young people - understanding that behaviour is communication.

You should have experience of working in a multi-agency approach to supporting children and young people and be able to quickly establish effective working relationships with partners you will be working with.

We offer a Car User Allowance, up to 33 days holiday, free parking and a generous local government pension scheme. For more information about the benefits of working for the Council click here:
