Job introduction

Cityclean is at a critical point and is making plans for the future of the service. Not only will you be central in developing Cityclean’s Waste, Resources & Street Cleansing Strategy which will set out the city’s ambitions for the next five years, you will also design and deliver projects to achieve those ambitions.

Our service has an integral role in resident, business and visitor perceptions of Brighton & Hove and is fundamental to the success and attraction of our city. Working as part of a small team, you will design and lead a range of projects to improve the city’s levels of reducing, reusing and recycling waste and to enhance the look of our city, as well as help meet the council’s ambition to become carbon neutral by 2030.

About the role

You will be an experienced, organised and confident Project Development Officer who can formulate and deliver waste, recycling and street cleansing service projects to time and within budget.

You will be able to exercise independence and discretion and be comfortable working as part of a team, or on your own, in an evolving and dynamic environment. You must possess good verbal and written communication skills, have excellent ICT skills, and can build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.

In particular, we want someone to join our Cityclean team who can demonstrate experience in:

  • Development and implementation of projects
  • Delivery of targeted research
  • Communication and engagement, both externally to residents and internally to colleagues
  • Contract management
  • Delivery of good customer service
  • Monitoring budgets and financial record keeping

Knowledge and/or experience of the waste sector is desirable but not essential.

Fixed term for: 12 months. This is a secondment opportunity.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
