It is a challenging, yet exciting time to work in local government finance. North Somerset Council have an excellent finance team with a proven track record of strategic financial planning, budgetary control and statutory reporting. We are looking to enhance these core areas and also expand our capital financing team to provide financial support for our capital programme, which now includes a wide range of significant investment projects such as the new railway in Portishead, transport infrastructure to bypass Banwell and the creation of new school facilities.

We are looking to recruit an ambitious and adaptable individual to join our capital finance team on a fixed term basis. North Somerset Council prides itself on being an efficient, well run council. Alongside being a strong technical individual, we are looking for applicants with excellent presentation and communication skills and an aptitude to positively embrace, and influence change.
You will be CCAB Qualified, with significant post qualification experience, as well as being an accomplished team player with a proven track record of financial planning, budgetary control and statutory reporting in a capital financing environment.
The role is broad and also includes areas such as asset management, grant funding applications and claims, financing, statutory accounts, section 106 and CIL contributions, VAT and so knowledge and experience in these areas, along with a broader understanding of local government finance would be an advantage.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following personal skills and attributes;
- You must be a motivated individual with strong inter-personal skills to supplement your technical expertise, who can manage themselves effectively and also those staff who report to them,
- Be able to successfully influence and challenge senior managers with strategies and decision making, as well as able to give advice, support and solutions,
- Transferrable skills required within a technical accountancy discipline, such as interpreting and applying legislative changes/requirements and regulations and preparation of statutory accounts.
