Learning Support Services Manager

We are looking for a Learning Support Services Manager to join the SEN & Disabled Children’s Service in West Berkshire.

You will be responsible for managing the Cognition and Learning Team, the Early Development and Inclusion Team and the Autism Team, and for ensuring that high quality support is delivered to children and schools for children with SEND. This support will include support for SENCOs, assessments, written guidance, training (both Authority wide and bespoke for individual schools), running SENCO Network meetings and producing a SEND Newsletter for schools.

You will also oversee some specialist provision run on behalf of the Local Authority by schools, including our Language and Literacy Centres, our resourced provision attached to mainstream schools and the Specialist Inclusion Support Service run by our special schools.

You will be an experienced teacher with significant experience in SEND in mainstream schools. A post graduate qualification in SEND is desirable but not essential.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to children with SEND in West Berkshire and their families. You will need an excellent working knowledge of SEN and Disability, the ability to work on your own initiative and to tight deadlines. You will also require a high level of interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to working in coproduction with parents and young people.

In return, West Berkshire District Council offers excellent employee benefits such as flexible working and access to a range of relevant professional development opportunities.

We are ideally looking to offer the successful candidate the full number of hours advertised above. We may however consider offering less hours than advertised providing they meet the requirements of the role and service which will be determined by the recruiting manager.

This role has been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2017; the requirement to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English applies.

West Berkshire Council offer excellent employment benefits such as flexible working, access to a wide range of relevant training, local government pension scheme, family friendly policies, a range of local discounts and much more. You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement of 29 days per annum rising to a maximum of 34 days.

For an informal discussion, please contact Jane Seymour, Service Manager, SEN & Disabled Children’s Service, on 01635 519783.

Interviews will take place on the 15th December 2020.
