“Building resilience for future success”

Assistant Headteacher - Inclusion and SEND L1-5

The Assistant Head Teacher will take a central role in assisting the Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and Governing Body to develop our school in accordance with its shared values and our school development plans.

Ancora House School seek to recruit a qualified SENDCo to take up the role of Assistant Headteacher to lead on inclusion and SEND in our community Hub provision.

Ancora House School is an Outstanding school designated as a Medical Pupil Referral Unit; the school has two sites; the first is the in-patient unit based at the Countess of Chester Hospital Park; the second is our community Hub based in Castle House, Castle Park, Frodsham.

The in-patient unit supports up to 30 young people who are admitted the adolescent psychiatric unit, they are aged between 13 and 18 years old, young people can come from anywhere in the UK.

The Hub supports up to 20 learners in Cheshire West and Chester who cannot attend school due to their physical or mental health problem; learners remain on dual roll with their home school with the aim for them to return there as soon as they are well enough.

The successful candidate will be based in the Community Hub and will lead on inclusion, SEND and safeguarding to ensure that the highest standards of safety, wellbeing and achievement are maintained.

Learners who attend the Hub typically present with a range of barriers but the more prevalent reasons are social, emotional and mental health problems. A significant number have social and communication difficulties.

Ancora House School recognises that in order for young people to thrive and to reach their potential they need the strong foundations of resilience; perseverance and independence. A large majority of our learners are working with CAMHS and other services; as a school we work in close partnership with organisations and families to promote the recovery of our young people; these relationships are critical to ensuring our young people progress.

Ancora House School’s primary function for our young people is to build their resilience to ensure their future success. Academic rigor is a part of the school’s wider philosophical and psychological approach. Ensuring learners have the opportunity to feel safe and experience a sense of wellbeing is our initial aim; building relationships is key in this; the school is a person centred school and the whole community promotes the values of respect; dignity and equity.

Through our curriculum approach we ensure that learners are offered the skills that they need to access education and to take their place in the local, national and global communities.

The role of Assistant Head requires strong leadership skills, securing a consistent approach for all with clear expectations and boundaries; we know this is the formula that works.

Working directly with the Headteacher, the successful candidate will continue to develop the service and as part of the senior leadership team, and will contribute to the school’s development plan.

Outstanding skills of communication are imperative in order to build the relationships we value so much; keeping the young people and their families at the heart of what we do secures the best outcomes possible.

The school is at an exciting time in its evolution and requires a passionate, enthusiastic and committed individual to help lead its skilled and experienced team.

If you believe you are that person we look forward to receiving your application.

We anticipate that interviews for this post will be held during the week commencing 8th February 2021.
