Salary: £22,031.00 – £24,329.00 per annum + 12.5% Shift Allowance

Millmead Offices, Guildford, GU2 4BB

Guildford Borough Council is looking for a Caretaker, to join our existing team in providing a Caretaking service for the Millmead offices and to maintain/monitor the security of the site.

The role of a Caretaker requires tact and initiative as the Caretaking team plays a key part in helping to achieve the Council’s objective of providing a first-class service for the residents of Guildford. Duties include the preparation of Committee and meeting rooms and setting up equipment for presentations and exhibitions, plus undertaking minor repairs and maintenance throughout the Millmead Offices.

The Caretaking team monitor deliveries to the complex and maintains the exterior of the complex by ensuring that all pathways are clear, and that the grounds are free of litter and natural debris. They are responsible for some Reception duties outside of normal office hours and security of the complex including opening and securing the site.

You will be required to work as part of a team covering a shift pattern as detailed below:

Week 1                                    07.15 to 11.00             12.00 to 15.45 (Fri 15.15)

Week 2                                    07.15 to 12.00 16.00 to 18.45 (Fri 18.15)

Week 3                                    13.00 to 16.00 17.00 to 21.30 (Fri 20.30hrs or end of evening meetings)

These shift patterns may be subject to variation on occasions to suit the needs of the Council and to cover the team’s holidays and sickness.

Overtime working may occasionally be required at weekends and Bank Holidays which will attract additional payment. The late shift (3) is also the duty shift (with a duty phone) and will be required to participate in the out-of-hours call out rota, for which additional payment will be made. A uniform is provided which must be worn at all times when on duty.

The post holder is required to hold a licence valid to drive in the UK in order to drive Council owned vehicles.

The postholder is required to live within 30 minutes of the site.
