Our long-term social work teams have successfully embedded the Family Safeguarding Model and we want to replicate these successes in a bespoke and enhanced manner within the First Response service area.

What it’s like working in our team…
We are looking for a talented and passionate candidate to join a successful yet ever evolving Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub in making a positive difference to vulnerable families in Bracknell Forest. We want a practitioner to join us in providing a compassionate and safety-first approach to children and families at risk or in need of services – through timely and effective triage.
Our work is diverse, and no two days are the same. In our view this makes our service an exciting one to be part of and provides our workers with a broad range of experience.
The team predominately triages all incoming requests for support from Children’s Social Care and make timely decisions for children in need or those who are at risk. We work closely with a range of partners to provide us with a more comprehensive view of needs and risk.
The team work hard – often under pressure – to ensure children and families receive a timely service. We know that MASH social work is a demanding and complex job. You will work alongside a Team Manager and an early intervention triage team.
We strive to deliver high quality social work through our comprehensive learning and development offer and good reflective supervision and peer support.
As part of a routine stock-take of staff well-being we were told the following;
- There is a supportive and approachable leadership and management team
- The team offer each other good peer support
- Staff felt appreciated and that their development was prioritised
- Supervision is routinely provided
Our performance management tells us;
- We provide timely decisions on new contacts to the department
- Our assessment timeliness is a strength
- More children and families are taking up an early help offer at the point of step down
This is an opportunity to join a Local Authority who were assessed by OFSTED as ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ features in the most recent Inspection of services for children in need of help and protection, children looked after and care leavers in May 2017 which stated;
“…children benefit from effective relationships with their social workers, and their needs are well understood and planned for. The quality of direct work undertaken with children is strong, and the voice of the child is evident throughout their assessments and reviews, informing plans”
During a Joint Targeted Area Inspection in January 2019, inspectorates found;
“There is an impressive multi-agency culture of creativity, reflection and active problem-solving”
“… teams are well established, with confident and competent social work staff and managers… There are no delays in contacts being reviewed by a manager, and decision-making is proportionate and child-focused... The duty team visits children immediately… Children’s assessments [ensure] relevant information is considered in order to reduce risk for children and improve their outcomes…”
You will be supported to carry out the following duties, responsibilities and training…
- To triage and identify the needs of children and families referred within a statutory 24 hour timescale. You will negotiate delivery of services where appropriate. A large part in this will be to promote listening to children at every opportunity; ensuring their views are heard, recorded and acted upon in an appropriate and timely
- To work alongside other professionals in the triage and MASH process in order to identify children who are in need. Additionally, you will act swiftly to ensure a response for children who are at risk of harm.
- You will prioritise a demanding daily workload effectively and be able to maintain sufficient oversight as the only social worker in our MASH.
- Identify the most appropriate intervention and be able to record clearly your rationale and decision making.
- To make effective use of time and be able to prioritise Alongside your Supervisor, be able to set clear goals and strategies.
- To develop and maintain accurate case records and comply with the Department’s policies and guidelines.
