1:1 Teaching Assistant Level 2

Crosby High School is a 146 place 11-16 school for pupils with moderate learning difficulties/complex learning difficulties and physical disabilities. We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and committed teaching assistant (level 2) with a proven record of high quality support for children as well as an ability to offer quality personal care and pastoral support to children. Experience of primary practice and / or working with pupils with Special Educational Needs is desirable.

We are looking to appoint a teaching assistant with strong communication skills who recognises that the role of the TA is strongly linked to removing barriers for learning for our pupils. We are looking for a teaching assistant who can demonstrate a deep passion in relation to the education of pupils with Special Educational Needs as the focus of the school is firmly set on providing the very best education and support in every way for every pupil.

We require a teaching assistant to support a Year-7 young lady who has a complex learning and physical profile: she has cerebral palsy resulting in very limited control over her body movements. She uses a variety of equipment including an electric wheelchair and a walker. She is reliant on adult support for her all primary-care needs which include personal care and being tube fed via a mickey button. (These primary-care aspects of the post are shared and full training will be given). This student uses a computer for communication and school work, as well as other non-verbal methods such as an alphabet chart.

This student is a lovely young lady who is always positive and sociable, with a great sense of humour. She loves to communicate with others and is keen to learn, using a variety of computer programmes to record her work.  She needs support in all areas and requires two members of staff to enable her to access the curriculum as well as interpreting her wants and needs: physically, academically and socially.

The successful candidate for this part-time post will work under the direct supervision of the full-time post holder as well as being fully supported and trained in all aspects of the role.  They will be employed specifically for this individual pupil. As indicated, a proportion of the support will involve lifting and handling (for which a hoist is used) as well meeting primary-care needs. Training will be provided. The post is a 5-day post the hours being 12.00pm to 3.30pm (17.5 hours per week). It is a fixed-term post as part of a job share however is linked to the child and is reviewed annually so it is likely it will be extended. The post will commence as soon as possible.

We can offer:

  • A welcoming and supportive school community based on a strong ethos where everyone is valued.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and eager learners who participate fully in all aspects of school life.
  • A dedicated and hard-working staff team who are committed to continuous school development to improve outcomes for children and their families.
  • An exciting opportunity to work with children with Special Education Needs
