Principal Solicitor / Lawyer (Planning)


Wealden is a great place in which to live and work, located in a stunning area of the South East of England. Wealden and Rother Legal Services is a shared service partnership between Wealden District Council and Rother District Council. We are looking for an outstanding legal professional to direct and lead our expanding Planning team and provide a high quality, professional service in relation to all legal planning matters across both Councils.

Working closely with Members and Officers you will be involved in complex and challenging work. You will act as principal adviser to meetings of the Planning Committees at Wealden and Rother District Councils, including responsibility for the proper conduct of Planning-related litigation and Inquiries and will take the lead on and supervise the issue and drafting of planning Enforcement Notices and drafting and negotiation of Section 106 Agreements and other planning-related documentation.

You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive or equivalent with a current practising certificate. You will have extensive knowledge and experience of advising on all aspects of Planning law, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively on your own as well as being part of a wider team of lawyers. The successful candidate will have the ability to engender trust and confidence and be able to show tact, diplomacy and political awareness with resilience.

This post is based in Hailsham but you will also be expected to work at the Rother offices in Bexhill and we can offer the opportunity of Flexible/ Homeworking in accordance with operational needs.
