Job introduction

Brighton & Hove City Council is seeking an experienced and skilled Public Health Intelligence Specialist to lead delivery of high-quality public health intelligence.

The Public Health Intelligence Specialist will provide expert advice and guidance on public health intelligence, epidemiological, and statistical matters including the development of health-related data sets and information to the council, strategic partners and partnerships.

They will lead on the development and delivery of a range of high-quality public health statistical and information services and on complex projects and programmes, including a key role in developing further the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA).

About the role

Ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • Professionally qualified to Masters degree level in Public Health, a relevant specialism or equivalent significant working experience
  • Expert knowledge of data sources relevant to public health and wider determents of health
  • Expert knowledge of current good practice standards both at local and national level in relation to public health intelligence
  • Knowledge and experience of SPSS or other specialist statistical software and ideally Tableau or other dashboard/visualisation tools
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements, including equality standards

You will work with a range of stakeholders to help develop areas of our intelligence workplan, including the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, and develop and manage the datasets that allows the surveillance and monitoring of infections and outbreaks. You will deliver intelligence in a range of formats and to a range of audiences so the ability to engage and communicate with internal and external stakeholders is essential.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
