Highway Network Management Principal Officer

North Somerset Council are seeking an enthusiastic, highly-motivated individual to join our Highway Network Management Team as the lead specialist for the Councils highway (Streetworks) permit scheme.

Working as part of a busy, dedicated team, passionate about the service provided, you will play a key role in helping to deliver an essential element while assisting in the discharge of the Network Management Duty.

Reporting directly to the Highway Network/Traffic Team Manager, you will supervise and support the professional development of the permitting team and be responsible for the efficient/effective running of the permit scheme.

Good management and communication skills are essential, along with strong IT skills (including experience of bespoke systems relating to Streetworks/Permitting functions), flexibility and an ability to work under pressure for this role.

The Highway Network Management Team is a customer facing team and on a daily basis you will be dealing and engaging with the public, elected members, town & parish councils, utility companies and other stakeholders relating to more complex matters/enquiries/complaints. Therefore, you will have good, demonstrable experience of customer liaison and resolution.

Using your knowledge and understanding of technical standards, safe working practices and legislation, you will be providing advice and undertaking enforcement action directly in relation to North Somerset Council’s Permitting Scheme and temporary traffic management to Contractors, Statutory Authorities and other interested/associated parties.

Knowledge of the local area would be advantageous although not essential.

Due to the current climate, home working will be a requirement. The role comes with a competitive salary, local authority pension scheme, cycle to work scheme and flexible working.

To enable us to shortlist in a fair and unbiased way, it is essential that you provide us with sufficient information to demonstrate how you meet or exceed the criteria outlined in the job family.

For an informal discussion, please contact Paul Watkins (Highway Network & Traffic Team Leader) on 01934 426652.

Anticipated interview date:  To be confirmed

In the interest of efficiency and economy, no further communication will be sent to you unless you reach the final shortlist.
