We are seeking an individual with drive and enthusiasm to join our Environmental Health Team which deliver our Food, Port Health and Health and Safety Service across Lewes District and Eastbourne Borough Council areas.

As a Specialist Advisor you will;

  • Provide customer focused and specialist advice on a range of statutory and non statutory services.
  • To input and deliver appropriate areas of Corporate Strategy and associated policies and plans
  • To provide technical input to corporate projects and strategic programmes.

We are currently undergoing expansion in the Port Health service based at Newhaven and have a number of vacancies available. We are inviting applications from newly qualified Environmental Health Practitioners or from practising EHP’s looking for a new challenge

You will be working on imported food and feed law compliance as part of the Councils Environmental Health team, which also has a responsibility for inland food law enforcement.

Main responsibilities will include checking and clearing consignments of imported food, sampling and taking enforcement action where necessary. You will also be carrying out food premises inspections within Lewes District Council and Eastbourne Borough Council.

Professionalism together with the ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team towards shared goals is essential.

It is important that you are comfortable working under pressure including making decisions. You will need excellent communication skills and must work well within a team. You must be proficient using IT systems.

You must possess a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, be EHORB registered and ideally in a position to be authorised in accordance with Food Law Code of Practice requirements with minimal delay. Experience of working in a BCP and awareness of a Border operating model are desirable.
