Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.

We are really excited to offer a unique opportunity to join our Leadership Team as our new Portfolio Director for Safety, Security and Home Affairs.  You will report to the Chief Secretary and work closely with Elected Members, Officers and Partners to keep our citizens safe and the island secure.

We are looking for a motivated senior leader with a credible track-record of improving outcomes and driving transformational change, with the ability to develop a portfolio that plays a fundamental role in the security and economic prosperity of St Helena.

We are interested in speaking to individuals with extensive and varied experience as a senior manager in a relevant Central Government Department or relevant department on another Island/Territory.  Delivering cultural change and innovation will be critical, a strong commitment to working in partnership is also required. You will have effective leadership skills and strategic vision, and the ability to work with stakeholders and partners across our system to deliver exemplar services for our community.

We are looking for someone who is dynamic, enthusiastic, passionate and visionary; someone who demands commitment and results but is able to lead, inspire and motivate people with respect and empathy.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena.  As an officer funded by the UK Government through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.

Our Benefits Package Includes:

  • Salary: £77,720pa, depending on experience and qualifications, taxable in St Helena

  • Annual Pension Contribution of 7.5% of salary
  • Annual Leave of 30 days per annum plus Public Holidays
