Planning Policy Manager

“Shaping the borough, making a difference”

Place making is fundamental to Tunbridge Wells Borough Council. The Planning Policy Manager role is central to this, leading the production of the new Local Plan 2020-2038, a Town Centre Area Plan for Royal Tunbridge Wells and subsequently the first Local Plan following the expected changes to the national planning system.

We’d be delighted to hear from people who are passionate about place making who have the relevant planning and managerial experience, skills and knowledge and are looking to join a dynamic, collaborative, well staffed and supportive Planning Service, taking forward planning policy in an “open for business” Council within the attractive and varied townscapes and environments of the borough.

For more information about the role and person specification please see the documents below. For an informal discussion, please contact Steve Baughen (Head of Planning) by email (stephen.baughen@tunbridgewells.gov.uk), LinkedIn, or telephone (01892 554406).

This is a politically restricted post.

Interview date: Tuesday, 9 March 2021

Local Plan 2020-2038: TWBC Full Council has approved the Local Plan for Regulation 19 consultation (26th March-21st May 2021) and submission in July 2021.  We are looking for someone to take the plan from immediately post submission through to Examination (November 2021) and adoption (July 2022).   The Plan is underpinned by a robust and full evidence base and Sustainability Appraisal, which has been subject to a positive Planning Inspectorate advisory visit.

Further information on the Plan is available by following this link - https://democracy.tunbridgewells.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=134&MId=4862&Ver=4

The Local Plan section of the TWBC website will be updated in early March 2021 ahead of the Regulation 19 consultation.

Local Development Scheme: the LDS (February 2021) will be updated on the website (https://www.tunbridgewells.gov.uk/planning/planning-policy/local-development-scheme) on 22nd February to show the programme for the RTW Town Centre Area plan and Supplementary Planning Documents.  Relevant sections of the LDS (February 2021) are provided in the attachment below.
