Software Development Manager

Nottinghamshire County Council has a great reputation for its digital services across our award-winning website, online forms and call centre process and our own apps and APIs. We embrace the latest technologies and build strong teams in order to deliver service improvements to our citizens, staff and partners.

As part of a transformation of our ICT delivery we are embedding DevOps into everything we do and are now looking for an enthusiastic digital professional to lead, guide and inspire a team of developers responsible for the full lifecycle of our software and services. From inception and architecture to development, QA, deployment and monitoring and you will be responsible for the people, processes and tools for the development and running of the solutions we build.

You’ll be mentoring and coaching a team of technical staff on both technical and process matters. Setting high standard for their technical expertise, planning their continuous development and ensuring they understand the role with the team or project they are currently working. You’ll create a safe environment for creativity and innovation and motivate individuals to maximise the positive impact of the technology.

You’ll be pivotal in continuously embedding and improving the core principles of agile and DevOps into the teams and projects you work with. This will include helping those less familiar with agile approaches to interact with agile teams in an appropriate way and being a constant advocate for agile approaches. You should be familiar with development processes such as pull requests, code standards, CI/CD and service delivery.

We work on a wide variety of the Council’s key technologies including Mosaic and GovService and several different front and back end technologies. You should have a thorough understanding of C# and Core, as these are the primary development tools we use. In addition, you should have knowledge and experience of as many surrounding technologies as possible, Git, REST, WebAPI, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Angular, Blazor, Mediatr, Power BI, MVC, Umbraco, Azure App service, Service bus, Application Insights, Front door, and Visual Studio. Our version control, build and release pipelines are all handled by Azure DevOps and we use the latest Microsoft tools such as Visual Studio, and Visual Studio Code.

This is not just about improving how we do things to deliver more with higher quality and faster, it’s about people, and how Nottinghamshire County Council can do more to improve the lives of the citizens of Nottinghamshire and improve the services we offer them.
