Rent and Service Charge Officer – (Part-Time)



Salary range:                       £29,700 - £32,496 (pro-rata)

Hours:                                  25 hours per week

Holiday entitlement            28 days per annum (pro-rata)

Based:                                  Civic Centre/Flexible Working  



An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Council’s Housing & Property Services Directorate.  An enthusiastic individual with relevant work experience is sought to join the Home Ownership Team which administers the Right to Buy process and Leasehold and Social Housing Service Charges.    


Applicants will have the autonomy to shape the role and therefore must be happy to work with a minimum of supervision, have a positive attitude and be a good communicator.




To set up and manage the service charge process in respect of all social housing rental properties throughout the District having regard to the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government Policy statement on rents for social housing.


The Postholder will undertake an audit of each block in order to establish the curtilage of the block/scheme and to validate the services from which the Residents benefit. A master record database will be developed and maintained to ensure all service charge allocation and recharges are accurate. The Postholder will calculate the service charge for each applicable property based on the actual costs from the previous year and ensure that this Schedule of Service Charges is available in time for inclusion in the annual rent setting process.  


The Postholder will then be responsible for responding to all enquiries regarding service charges from residents, providing evidence of costs incurred and recharges applicable.


In addition, the postholder will calculate and set service charge levels for all new schemes in line with statutory regulations.
