Job introduction

We require a Deputy Room Leader to work across our busy nursery with children aged 6 months to up to rising 5's, experience with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities is desirable. We would like you to be enthusiastic, caring and committed to the nurturing of young children. We need someone with a sound understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and a level 3 qualification or equivalent.

Interview: There will be two stages to the interview process on 29 and 30 April. Shortlisted Candidates will be interviewed by video on 29 April. Candidates successful at the first stage will be invited to attend Bright Start for a second practical interview interacting with children on 30 April.

About the role

Bright Start Nursery is a 55-place nursery located in the North Laine of Brighton, close to Jubilee library and the Prince Regent swimming pool. We pride ourselves on providing a friendly welcome and inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive. We work with a diverse cohort of families and children and our staff team is committed to providing high quality play and learning experiences to all.

Applicants must have a Level 3 early years & childcare qualification; have experience of working with children aged from 6 months to 5 years; have good knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS); have excellent communication skills and the ability to converse with co-workers, parents, and other professionals; experience of communicating effectively with children and demonstrating sensitivity to the their needs. Experience of working as a ‘Key Person’, working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and with children who have English as an additional language is desirable, but not essential.

The role is to deliver nurturing early years care and education to children aged from 6 months to 5 years in our ‘Explorers’ and ‘Adventurers’ rooms on flexible hours, depending on the need of the nursery. Shifts will be agreed for each week in advance. The successful candidate will work closely with the Room Leaders, other Deputy Room Leaders and Nursery Practitioners; share ideas and abilities; be a positive role model; be a key person for a group of children; plan and organise stimulating activities; be an active part of our educational environment and meet children’s individual learning needs.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
