The Hertfordshire Public Health team is recruiting for a new Strategic Lead, Wider Determinants (Healthy Places) to lead and deliver the rapidly growing Healthy Places portfolio on a permanent, full-time basis.

The successful candidate will join the team at an exciting stage in the development of this area of work, reducing health inequalities across the county through the wider determinants of health.

You will have access to a significant budget and the support of a small team to deliver a high-profile programme of work across multiple disciplines and in collaboration with colleagues across two-tier local government, including Highways, Planning, Environment, Sustainability and Climate Change, Environmental Health and Housing.

Your in-depth understanding of the wider determinants of health and the local authority system will deliver evidence-driven change at the strategic level, shaping policy system-wide and influencing decision-making for shared priorities, facilitating the delivery of shared health and place agendas.

You will be key to building a skilled and effective Healthy Places team, developing and implementing a broad work programme. You will bring new ideas and shape the delivery of emerging projects as we begin the process of recovery from the COVID19 pandemic. You will apply your skills and knowledge of the role of place in health creation to lobby and advocate the importance of the wider determinants of health with senior officers and elected members.

You will inspire both your team and others with your passion for the role of place in building better health. You will have the appropriate ‘soft’ skills to progress the healthy places agenda, navigating political environments, regulatory regimes and non-statutory functions working with diplomacy and effectiveness, often in the public eye.
