More Information

Sustainability Engagement Officer

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in delivering the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’s strategy for sustainability and climate change. You will be an important member of the Council’s growing Sustainability and Climate Change team sitting within the wider Infrastructure, Sustainability and Economic Growth service.

In July 2019 the Council declared a climate emergency and established a Cross-Party Working Group to undertake an in-depth review of the council’s current carbon footprint and to formulate, consult and agree on a net Zero Carbon Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead by 2050 Strategy. The strategy was approved by the Council in December 2020 and we are now looking ahead to deliver against the action plan it sets out.

In this exciting new role you will take responsibility for engagement with residents, communities and businesses across the strategy’s four themes of energy, natural environment, transport and circular economy. You will build lasting, positive relationships and develop formal mechanisms to enable community led action on climate change.

You will work closely with the Council’s Communications Team to develop both internal and external sustainability behaviour change campaigns to ensure sustainability is embedded throughout the Borough. You will also need to identify best practice and ensure it’s communicated to relevant stakeholders.

You’ll be working closely with members, communities, partner organisations, Council services and contractors to deliver projects effectively and inclusively. An enthusiasm and passion for sustainability is an advantage along with relationship management skills so you can engage others with our exciting plans for the Borough.

You will represent the Council at various local/regional forums and support the preparation of our annual sustainability report.

The council is set in a major tourism area with tourist attractions including Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse and with the Royal Family on the doorstep, this is a good place to live and work. There are excellent transport connections to London and the West of England, with the new Elizabeth Line opening in Maidenhead.
