We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic candidate to become part of the Housing Solutions Team.

The Council already provides a successful Floating Support Service to people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Our newly formed team of Tenancy Sustainment Officers allow us to expand this offer with a focus on supporting rough sleepers with resettlement and tenancy sustainment.

The successful candidate will be based in the Housing Solutions Team which is a busy, thriving team who are constantly working towards creating a community free of homelessness. We provide advice, information and assistance with all housing issues within the Borough.

The role will involve holding a caseload of 8 – 12 of the most vulnerable rough sleepers with the most complex needs. The successful candidate will work closely with the Council’s Rough Sleeper Co-ordinator and our Rough Sleepers’ Service partners, York Road Project.

You will provide housing-related support to rough sleepers and those at risk of rough sleeping who require support to manage their tenancy, maintain their ability to live independently in the community, including initial resettlement for people taking up new tenancies. This will include helping rough sleepers to improve their quality of life. The welfare of clients is paramount and very close liaison must be maintained with Community Health Services, Social Services, key stakeholders and other relevant agencies.

You will have housing-related experience and some knowledge of homelessness legislation. An ability to interpret and communicate complex information is essential as is being an adaptable, sympathetic and organised individual. You will also have an understanding of the needs of clients with mental health problems, learning disabilities, substance misuse and/or vulnerable people.

The ability to converse at ease with clients and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for this post. An assessment may be required. If you have any queries or would like to discuss this further, please contact Human Resources.

A full driving licence is required.

The Council offers in return a generous flexi time scheme with the ability to take two flexi days a month, membership of the local government pension scheme, discounted health and leisure membership, plus many more excellent benefits.

The position involves contact with vulnerable adults therefore successful applicants will be required to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service. Assistance will be given by the Council and further details will be in the job application pack. Woking Borough Council takes a robust approach to thoroughly checking anyone who has applied to work with vulnerable groups.
