Young Person's Service - Team Leader

The Young Person’s Service (YPS) of the Falkland Islands Government Social Services Department is looking for a residential manager for our residential services to young people and adults with learning disabilities. The service follows UK practices and standards, modified to meet local needs and circumstances delivering person centred support and intervention along with a very child focused, solution-based approach.  The Falkland Islands is a small community which allows us to provide creative and individualised packages of support to truly adapt service provision that is needs led.

The Role

You will be accountable for leading and managing a small but committed team that provides care to young people who are unable to live with their families, and also tailored services to support adults with learning disabilities to live in the community. You will be responsible for supervising staff and ensuring a professional service is maintained. You will play a key role in reviewing and developing policies, procedures and strategies that improve methods of working, service provision and practice, whilst ensuring resources are used to their best effect. You will work closely with Social Work colleagues and colleagues from other directorates to ensure that we provide excellent care to the young people we look after.

We are looking for a first-class leader with excellent judgement and management skills who can effectively engage and motivate people at every level.  If you have a solid track record of successfully managing a residential resource for young people and of helping your staff to effectively achieve best practice standards in all that they do, then we want to hear from you.

The Package

  • Fixed Term Contract up to 4 years.
  • Salary Range, basic starting salary £31,577 - £35,133 depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity (taxable).
  • 41 days paid leave, 30 days annual leave and 11 public holidays.
  • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
  • Flights Package for you and recognised dependents at the beginning and end of contract, and additional annual return flights contingent on the duration of the contract.
  • Government Housing for rent and a starter pack to help you settle in.

Health & Social Services

Our residential service is based within Social Services, which sits within the Health & Social Services Directorate.  There is a small residential establishment that can care for 4 children and young people and the team also provides support to young adults with learning disabilities.  We operate a 24 hour service with an on-call rota which operates out of office hours.
