Social Worker – Unaccompanied Children and Care Leavers – Fixed Term Contract 12 Months
The UK Border agency’s definition of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) is children who are applying for asylum in their own right; separated from both parents; and are not being cared for by an adult, who in law or by custom, has a responsibility to do so.
Birmingham Children’s Trust's duty under section 17 and section 20 of the Children’s Act 1989 is to assess children in these circumstances and provide support and accommodation.
We have a number of unaccompanied children in care and care leaver who are presently ‘missing’ and considered as at risk of exploitation and trafficking. For them we continue to actively review their circumstances by working with a number of partner agencies. We are also actively reviewing what we can do better to support children who are considered as at high risk of trafficking and exploitation on first admission.
To better coordinate this work we are now seeking a qualified social worker, registered with Social Work England who has substantial experience of working and supporting unaccompanied children.
This will be a fixed term contract for an initial period of 12 months.
