Wokingham Borough Council are looking to recruit an experienced Specialist Grants Officer to join our in house disabled adaptation service based in the Housing Asset Management team. This post can be either fixed term contract or permanent. It is a full time position but there is scope for part time to be considered.
The role requires the implementation and effective provision of minor and major adaptations to the homes of tenants and qualifying residents within Wokingham funded via the Local Authority’s Disabled Facilities Grant strategy.
Offering a high level of customer service and support the successful candidate will visit customers in their own homes, sometimes independently but frequently with the Housing Occupational Therapist and the Team Surveyor. The position requires a keen team player as the process and responsibility to successfully complete a major adaptation is shared amongst the team.

Key Duties, Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- To be the client’s primary point of contact - ensuring that the client understands and is kept informed throughout the DFG process, including associated timelines
- To manage the cross tenure program of referrals - balancing cases, priorities, internal resources and contractors/suppliers
- To oversee and manage the procurement processes required for a DFG
- To achieve maximum grant spending whilst meeting the client’s needs and remaining within budgetary constraints
- To carry out and produce monthly and / or quarterly forecasting, KPIs and associated commentary
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- Knowledge of the Disabled Facilities Grants legislation and experience of administering the DFG Test of Resources
- Ability to independently plan, prioritise and coordinate resources to a high standard of delivery
- Experience in budget management and producing KPIs for management reports
- Proficient user of word processing, spreadsheets and email applications
- Experience in delivering front line services to vulnerable and disabled customers
- Good interpersonal & communication skills with a ‘can do’ attitude
- To be educated to degree level or equivalent
- To possess a full driving licence
