Apprenticeship Programme Manager

As Apprenticeship Programme Manager you will lead our apprenticeship programme, which currently employs over 100 apprentices directly at the Council. You will work to maintain the high standards of this award-winning programme, and drive continuous improvement.

You will work with senior officers across the Council to create apprenticeships, and you will have responsibility for ensuring the well-being, employability and development of apprentices is given high importance, and that the programme is delivered to the highest standards of fairness and integrity.

The ideal candidate will be organised, proactive, creative, and passionate about the potential of apprenticeships. If you have the knowledge and experience of implementing apprenticeship schemes preferably within a large organisation, this is an exciting opportunity to drive forward a key priority for us.

You should have a proven track record of developing and managing complex projects with a focus on employment outcomes. You should be an excellent manager of people; in this role you will be leading a team of staff who support apprentices and managers.

You must have superb networking skills and be able to build strong collaborative relationships. We need someone not only able to influence and negotiate, but also with gravitas and an ability to enthuse diverse stakeholders with the importance of this work.

You will need to have a working knowledge of the legislation, process and policies for apprenticeships and be able to communicate them to all levels across the Council.

To thrive in this role you will need to appreciate the challenges of promoting apprenticeships to Hackney residents/school leavers, and the barriers to employment faced by specific groups. You should be aware of issues around work readiness and best approaches to mitigate them.

Ideally you should understand the workings of local government including commissioning and procurement.

Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

The recruitment process is anonymous. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs.

When applying, there will be a number of questions relating to the post on the application form. It is essential that you complete the application questions, responding to each using examples of your skills, knowledge and experience.

Closing date for applications: Sunday 13 June 2021

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.
