An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Legal Services Section, based on the South Coast in Worthing Town Centre, West Sussex, providing a joint legal service to Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council.

We are looking for a Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive, with detailed knowledge and experience in Residential and Commercial Property, with an emphasis on providing advice in respect of a Commercial Property Investment Portfolio, preferably gained in a Local Government environment. Experience in Commercial Contracts would also be advantageous.

Reporting to the Senior Lawyer in the Property Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for advising on lease renewals, both in and out of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, and licenses to assign, underlet and alterations; together with a range of associated property and contract matters, including assisting with the negotiation of terms and drafting documentation, researching and analysing legislation, advising on its interpretation, and providing proactive, creative and pragmatic advice to Officers and Members of the Councils.

We are looking for a positive, driven and innovative professional with excellent commercial and negotiation skills and the ability to give clear, practical enabling legal advice.

The Councils operate flexible working practices.  Some evening work is required to attend Council Committee meetings on an occasional basis.
