Corporate Health and Safety Officer

We are looking for an individual who will support our Team to build a positive and proactive culture to health & safety. You will pay a crucial role in offering expertise, specialist advice and engaging with managers to develop their knowledge and understanding of best practice.

This role will be key in building upon current improvements to promote and support all aspects of health & safety. As a professionally qualified Health and Safety practitioner you’ll contribute to the work of the Council's Corporate Health & Safety Board by supporting managers in fulfilling their statutory duties. You will be responsible for updating policies, monitoring and updating health & safety arrangements across the Council, accurately recording, reporting and investigating incidents.

You’ll actively support all our Teams by monitoring health and safety performance and intervening as necessary to ensure statutory requirements are upheld. Including, travelling to other locations and sites within the Borough and supporting our internal management at all levels to implement policy and to manage risk where policy or standards may require interpretation being able to develop monitoring systems and undertake health & safety audits of service areas.

The role will work with the Business Assurance Manager to develop and deliver towards the Council’s strategy for health and safety to ensure compliance with H&S legislation and reduce risk as far as practicable across all directorates,

The successful candidate will hold a relevant qualification and demonstrate substantial experience of working in health & safety in a public organisation or similar with a broad range of service activities and technical risks related to the Council’s activities.
