Prison Resettlement Lead Worker – ESOS

This is an exciting opportunity to join our East Surrey Outreach Service, supporting rough sleepers with complex needs to move away from the streets and access and sustain accommodation and support. The team work across 4 councils in the region – Epsom and Ewell, The Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead and Tandridge – this position will support Reigate and Banstead Borough Council

As the Prison Resettlement Lead Worker you will:

  • Work with prisons, probation, local authority and other agencies to solve client’s housing issues by directly case working individuals with complex needs, quickly identifying the most appropriate rough sleeping prevention route and devise a plan to achieve positive outcomes
  • Focus on improving local response to ex-offender homelessness by coordinating joint working between agencies such as LA, prison, probation, Health teams, substance misuse, Adult Social Care to facilitate the discharge from prison and to address their support needs
  • Identify gaps in provision and create new pathways to prevent ex-offenders becoming homeless and move into settled accommodation Support service users pre-release and help rough sleepers off of the streets and into accommodation that address their support needs

This post will give you the opportunity to build on your ability to carry out assessments, identify options, devise plans to achieve these and oversee a multi-agency problem solving approach with people who may have a history of challenging services.

With the help of our experienced senior staff and management, you will be supported and trained to use your strong communication and creative problem-solving skills to enable you to create and deliver options for people where these may be hard to find. You will receive regular supervision from experienced staff who will both guide your work and encourage and facilitate your personal development.

To be successful you’ll need to have the interpersonal skills and the commitment, patience and perseverance required to work with a case load of complex ex-offenders and the confidence in public speaking to enable you to represent Thames Reach and speak about our work to our partners. As we work in partnership with enforcement agencies such as Prison Staff, Probation, Police and local authority enforcement teams, you’ll be comfortable doing this and will be able to speak to others about the benefits of this joint working approach.

You will have the confidence and knowledge to supervise volunteers and the strong I.T skills needed to be able to collect, collate and interpret information and statistics on your clients, caseload, performance and present these in external meetings.

While a large proportion of your time will be spent working day shifts Monday-Friday, you will be flexible and able to work late and early shifts and weekends as required. As this service covers a wide area we would require applications from people with a driving license and access to their own transport.
