Principal Planning Officer – Policy

Welcome to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead: home to market towns and countryside; historic landmarks and vibrant communities. It’s a place where national treasures, natural beauty spots, and major infrastructure projects all need the support of a team like ours, planning for growth and delivering high-quality, sustainable development. Together, we’re helping make every part of the borough a better place, for everyone who lives, works and visits here, reflecting the borough’s ambitious placemaking and climate change aspirations.

A better place for your ambitions

As our Principal Planning Officer (Policy) within the Planning Policy team, we need someone driven, experienced, and ready for a new challenge. You’ll be helping to deliver not just the borough’s ambitious new Local Plan, expected to be adopted later this year, but also supplementary planning documents and development briefs too – like our plans for significant growth in Maidenhead. On top of that, you’ll support the community in preparing neighbourhood plans within the borough too and help progress the Minerals and Waste and the Traveller Local Plans – all delivered to the highest standards, of course.

A better place, working together

You’re a born communicator. You work well with people of all backgrounds and at all levels, and you’ll need those skills here. Supporting the Planning Policy Manager on a day-to-day basis, you’ll also work with a wide range of colleagues, customers and stakeholders. You’ll advise parish councils and attend their public meetings. You’ll liaise with authorities like the Environment Agency, Natural England and Highways England. You’ll even help our Development Management colleagues as they interpret and apply your planning policy. And in everything you do, you’ll look to convey your expertise in a way that’s persuasive and engaging for every audience.

A better place to flourish

At the same time as nurturing the borough’s growth, you’ll be nurturing our wider team too. Passionate about planning policy, you’ll inspire that same energy in the team around you, helping everyone drive our plans forward. In short, you’re a role model, and every day, you’ll motivate junior staff as they grow their specialist expertise, sharing your knowledge and experience along the way.

A better place to work

It’s an exciting time to join us, but it’s a real challenge too – so we make sure you’re rewarded for the hard work you do. That’s why we offer a fantastic range of staff benefits here - including a competitive salary, local government pension scheme, professional fees paid and flexible working. So if you’re thinking of the next big step in your career, it’s time to discover a better place to work – and help us make the borough a better place to be.
