Senior Investigator

About this job

We require an experienced investigator with high standards and innovative thinking that is looking for a challenge and to push themselves in the public sector fraud space. Responsibilities include (but will not be limited to) planning and delivering a range of assignments in the specialist areas of fraud prevention, detection and investigation. The Senior Investigator role will be proactive in identifying and leading on investigations into tenancy fraud, corporate fraud and non-benefit related frauds committed against the Council. You will be expected to investigate and manage complex investigations, to prepare fraud cases for criminal prosecution, civil action and/or disciplinary procedures where required. This is a high profile and varied role in which you will engage closely with colleagues from across the Council, including partnership working with Internal Audit and Risk Management, contributing to the overall governance and control environment. There are opportunities to broaden your knowledge base, as we undertake investigations across a number of Council services and Council owned companies. We are part of the London Boroughs’ Fraud Investigation Group, which provides opportunities for investigators to network and share intelligence as well as opportunities to develop links to other investigation services such as central government agencies and the Metropolitan Police.

About you

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge, skills and experience in counter fraud activity and fraud investigations, conducting interviews and working with the police and other external investigative agencies. You will also have a genuine interest in furthering your career in counter fraud. You will need to hold an ACFS accreditation or equivalent qualification and have experience of carrying out investigations with minimal supervision, including Interview experience and preparing material for civil and/or criminal proceedings. This high-profile role affords regular exposure to senior officers across the Council and its companies, including delivery of fraud awareness workshops. Applicants should therefore possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to promote a proactive anti-fraud culture.
