Debt Recovery Officer SO1 Fixed-term

DEBT RECOVERY OFFICER – WALTHAM FOREST

SO1 £30,585 - £31,557 (PRO-RATA)

(TERM TIME ONLY)

INTITAL 1 YEAR FIXED TERM

We are seeking a highly motivated, customer-focused, and reliable Debt Recovery Officer to contact debtors and claim outstanding debts owed to the council. You will be responsible for recovering the money owed in as little time as possible, on a one year contract initially.

Waltham Forest is vibrant and diverse with a growing cultural scene and more green space than any borough north of the Thames. Coupled with great transport connections to the city and beyond it is a fantastic place to live and work. The Council’s strong track record of providing a variety of career pathways is an exciting opportunity not to be missed.

You would be joining WF Traded Services (http://wftradedservices.uk/), a business unit within Waltham Forest Council which was established in April 2016 to oversee and support all of the Council’s traded work with schools and the greater education community and provide a central point of contact for these customers.

THE ROLE

Using SAP financials, Microsoft Excel and other in-house systems you will keep track of all customer accounts to promptly identify all outstanding debts to the Council’s Traded Services. You will issue statements as part of monthly debt control process and demonstrate an organised approach to reducing the aged debt. Working under the supervision of the Traded Services Accountant and Operations Manager you will be able to input your own ideas and experience into simplifying financial processes and improving the customer experience both internally and externally and should therefore have an innovative, problem-solving approach to finance.

You will be the first point of contact for all debt related queries from our internal services as well as external customers, most of whom are schools. Finance experience within the Education or Public sectors would therefore be valuable. In order to provide customers with up to date, accurate information on debt along with a pleasant customer experience you will need to be someone with strong financial acumen, who enjoys regular customer interaction and can multi-task effectively. Someone working towards accounting qualifications or wishing to do so would gain excellent experience in this role.

This is initially a 1 year fixed term contract

Please ensure that in your application you address all aspects of required Knowledge, Skills and Experience as per the role profile.

Equal Opportunities
Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population.

We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace.

The Council is committed to meeting its 4 strategic outcomes contained within the Waltham Forest Council Equality Plan 2012/2015:
• Promoting equality of opportunity
• Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage
• Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels
• Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent services to all.

Respecting Diversity is a core Council value.
