Cover Supervisor

Start date: 1st September 2021

Full time and part time working can be accommodated.

The Howard School/Waterfront UTC are pleased to offer a new flexible route into training to become a teacher for graduates and would-be graduates. This exciting opportunity combines teaching experience as a 'Cover Supervisor' with a training opportunity to become a teacher.

To apply for this role you must have a strong desire to become a teacher and ideally you will have a degree; however this is not necessary for the right candidate, who is prepared to complete a part- time degree with the support of The Howard Academy Trust. The Trust will pay for you to access 30 credits a year and offer you release time prior to taking examinations.

We have been incredibly successful at supporting teachers to  train via this route. Please contact  if you have any questions in relation to this teacher training route.

The Cover Supervisor will be expected to deliver interventions and support the Learning Support Assistants.

Our Vision

As a school, our local and national reputation where our outcomes challenge the stereotypical view of underachievement in young men continues to grow, as does the perception that we hold to traditional values in standards of behaviour and uniform. We are an innovative and creative school, responding to the ever-changing needs of our students and the demands from higher education and employers. We have implemented a number of exciting changes in recent years to support our drive towards excellence.

The Howard School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. References will be requested prior to interview for those candidates short-listed. The successful candidate will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.

Health and Wellbeing

We care about our staff's health and wellbeing and offer:

• an employee assistance programme

• flu jabs

• health checks

• discounted gym membership – Avenue Tennis

• Fit Fridays

• wellbeing afternoons.

Despite COVID-19 recruitment and hiring will continue for The Howard Academy Trust.  Applications will still be reviewed and interviews conducted.  Please note that some activities may vary.

We reserve the right to alter our interview dates and close this vacancy early should we receive an overwhelming response.  Interview dates to be confirmed.  If you wish to discuss this vacancy further please contact Sharon Teachen, HR Manager on 01634 265771 or email (
