Excellent leadership development training opportunities.
Wealden is a fantastic part of the UK in which to live and work. From the stunning coastline of the Seven Sisters in the South to the magical Ashdown Forest in the North, and much more in between, it remains one of the most popular Districts in the UK. The population is in excess of 160,000, the largest in East Sussex and in geographical area at 323 sq. miles, we are amongst the largest Districts in England.
Wealden is a forward looking Council with an outstanding performance on homelessness prevention, access to the private rented sector through our landlord’s incentive packages and the lowest number of households in temporary accommodation in East Sussex.
Tackling rough sleeping is a local and national priority. We are committed to ending rough sleeping by 2024 through the strong collaboration and partnership working across East Sussex which we have developed. As the successful candidate, you will lead, develop and sustain the successful networks that have been built up so far, to deliver a variety of projects.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, innovative and experienced manager to lead the Housing Options and Strategy team, comprising 15 staff across the homelessness/housing options and allocations teams plus co-located staff. You will also need to have considerable operational and technical experience in part VI and VII of Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and the Homelessness Reduction Act, and excellent knowledge in homelessness strategy, policy and projects. In addition, Wealden retains our own housing stock, so experience in housing management would be advantageous. You will be educated to degree level and have (or be working towards) professional qualification. You will have experience in Local Government, best practice and policy direction in homelessness, temporary accommodation and allocations.
You must be pro-active, innovative, self-motivated and have evidence of producing cost-effective solutions and results to very tight timescales.
Finally it is imperative you have excellent communication and analytical skills, good political awareness and the ability to represent the Council in a political setting, given the close internal working relationships with the Head of Housing, Wealden’s Corporate Management Team, the Housing Portfolio Holder and other Members of the Council.
We offer an excellent package, including competitive salary, career average salary pension scheme, an employee benefit scheme offering a range of discounts and salary sacrifice schemes, flexitime and discounted leisure centre membership.
We are committed to maintaining a diverse workforce and an inclusive work environment. We value the differences that people bring from all backgrounds and communities and all applications will be treated on merit.
