The starting salary is £45,734 per annum for a 36 hour working week.
Surrey County Council is undergoing a period of significant change. In the context of shifting resident demands, the increasing need to deliver value for money and our ambition to be a leading council we need to rethink and reassess how we provide services.
In order to achieve this we have embarked upon a massive transformation programme which consists of a number of key programmes that are critical to the future success and financial stability of the council. We therefore require strong project managers to drive the delivery of these programmes and ensure they are delivered on time and to budget.
Surrey County Council is looking to recruit a Project Manager within our Community Protection Group (CPG) Transformation Programme who can take on a challenging projects across the programme for the next 6 months. The Services that sit within the CPG are Surrey Fire and Rescue, Coroners, Trading Standards, Emergency Management, Health and Safety, Community Resilience and the Armed Forces Covenant. This is an exciting opportunity to join the team as the focus initially will be delivering an improvement programme for the Coroners Service.
The programme’s overarching ambition is to adapt and modernise in order to best meet the demands and expectations of residents and we require a dynamic, capable and enthusiastic person to help us realise this.

- Committed to delivering improvements in public service.
- Experience of successfully delivering complex projects and programmes
- Ability to carry out reviews of major functions or processes and work flexibly to meet changing demands and priorities
- Some understanding of Local Government
- Experience of successfully delivering organisational change
- Proven track record of working comfortably with colleagues and managers at all levels and with a wide range of stakeholders including Members
- Confidence working in a challenging political environment
- Demonstrable leadership qualities
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
Experience of working within the public sector is desirable however we are equally interested in hearing from people who are proven programme managers and who are confident working in a challenging environment with stakeholders who have different priorities.
