Brighton & Hove City Council’s Temporary Accommodation service have an exciting opportunity for 2 Level 2 apprentices in Credit Controller/Collector. The Team is responsible for providing temporary accommodation to homeless households within the city, and the Credit Control team are responsible for managing the rent accounts for these households.

The work can be very varied and interesting and a great introduction into the Housing Needs service offered by Brighton and Hove City Council. There will be an opportunity to attend court as an observer and the successful candidates will learn how to liaise with other Housing teams and departments and will build excellent working relationships. You will also learn valuable administration functions using a wide variety of software packages and improve your communication skills both verbally and in writing. Currently based in the centre of town, Brighton and Hove is a vibrant city to work in and the council offers flexible working, and access to staff discounts in the city centre.

The Credit Controller Collector Level 2 Apprenticeship https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/credit-controller-and-collector-v1-0 at level 2 is run by CSA who is responsible for supporting you with your learning and carrying out assessments. The course has core modules to complete and a number of optional units. Your work experience will be linked to the modules and units in your course. You will receive additional support from a nominated mentor, throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship.

About the role

Apprentices will learn how to:

  • provide customers with advice and assistance to prevent and manage debt. This will include providing a front line service both face to face and on the phone
  • carry out financial health checks with customers and raise awareness of services
  • provide advice on Housing legislation and welfare benefits
  • assist vulnerable customers, making referrals and liaising with support workers
  • offer administration and duty support to the Account Managers and the Credit Control Support Workers on the Credit Control Team
  • apply the council’s policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner
  • carry out home visits to customers to offer advice and assistance with regards to credit control

Apprentices without evidence of level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completing training and you may be required to take an English and Maths assessment prior to a formal offer being made.

For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement the apprenticeships English and Maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3 and British Sign Language qualification are an alternative to English qualifications for whom this is their primary language.

The duration of the apprenticeship will be 13 months

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
