North Somerset Council is looking to appoint someone to help develop and move forward our road, footway and cycleway maintenance planning (Highway Asset Management).
The role involves commissioning surveys of highway condition and then producing the annual road and footway maintenance programme for resurfacing and surface sealing treatments. The postholder will also help write the strategy/policy and set out future funding requirements to maintain highways in line with the strategy.
Key duties include:
- Analysing road condition survey data and production of condition reports
- Preparing annual maintenance programme (circa £6m)
- Annual reporting
- Updating the council’s highway maintenance strategy/policy
You will be expected to work with suppliers and colleagues from neighbouring councils to actively develop your knowledge and awareness of best practise. You will also respond to public and internal enquiries regarding policy and scheme selection.
The post sits within the Highways Asset Planning Team which is part of a wider, “Highways Technical Services”, division which delivers new highways projects.
The successful candidate will be qualified to the relevant level in Civil Engineering; Geography; GIS; mathematics or other relevant subject and preferably have experience in dealing with data in spreadsheets as well as a knowledge of asset management principles. You will have enthusiasm to make a difference and be flexible with the ability to engage with the public and employees at all levels.
The post is career graded and we are ideally looking to appoint an experienced person but would consider someone who can demonstrate transferable skills and the ability to learn quickly on the job.
JG3 (Level 3) - £19,312 per annum
JG4 (Level 4) - £20,092 per annum
JG5 (Level 5) - £22,183 per annum
JG6 (Level 6) - £25,481 per annum
JG7 (Level 7) - £28,672 per annum
JM1 (Level 8) - £32,234 per annum
JM2 (Level 9) - £35,745 per annum
