Democratic Services Officer (Maternity Cover)

Uttlesford District Council are looking for a Democratic Services Officer to join a small but busy team supporting the democratic processes of the Council and helping to ensure that decisions can be taken effectively and lawfully.  This will involve co-ordinating and servicing meetings of the Council’s committees as well as some working and task groups, and will include preparing and publishing agendas, reports and minutes.

The team has recently taken on the role of supporting the Council’s scrutiny function.  There will be scope for the post holder to help in the work of developing an annual work programme and managing in depth task and finish scrutiny reviews.  This will involve the use of formal project management methodology to scope and deliver reviews and other assigned projects.

The right person will need to demonstrate an enthusiastic and systematic approach.  Ideally to have some awareness of political considerations, able to prioritise workloads with minimal supervision and be able to meet strict deadlines.  IT literacy is required. Ideally, applicants will have some working knowledge and experience of committee administration and governance structures.   The core part of the job will revolve around committee administration work.  Many of the meetings are held outside working hours and in-person, so that flexibility for evening working and attending the Council Offices is required.
