About the role:
Do you have a good level of construction and building surveyor experience, knowledge of the interpretation and enforcement of Building Regulations, plus the IT skills it takes to appropriate manage and record your cases? Are you able to combine your technical know-how with a natural flair for helping people through the building control process? Then you could soon be developing your skills, qualifications and career while playing a key role within Horsham District Council’s Sussex Building Control team.
About the team
The local LABC team, known as Sussex Building Control, is the award-winning provider of choice for all sorts of town and rural projects across Horsham District Council and Crawley Borough Council. We also have partners that work across the southeast of England, including within Central London. And, right now, we’re looking for a Surveyor or Senior Surveyor, depending on your experience, to join us.
About the role
Your challenge will be to assess plans and applications for compliance with Building Regulations and legislation and ensure that all work is in line with performance targets and Quality Management System processes. We’ll also rely on you to provide advice and assistance to members of the public and other in-house departments on professional Building Control matters. Should you have the relevant experience to take on the senior role, you’ll also act as lead officer on major/complex developments and be responsible for mentoring, training and supervising junior colleagues.
To succeed, you’ll need proven relevant qualifications and experience, excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate well at all levels with the public, contractors and professional bodies alike. You’ll also need lots of initiative and good organisational, time management and problem solving skills. For the senior role you’ll also ideally need to be a qualified Level 6 Surveyor and willing to support the development of junior members of the team.

Salary: £23,541 - £41,881 pa
Essential Car User Allowance
Up to £1,239 pa
Surveyor: £2,000 pa
