Senior Information Governance Officer
Corporate Insight, Communities and Governance
Grade 10: £33,476 - £36,580
Pride in our Borough: A Borough that works for everyone
Information governance has never been more important to a well-run local authority - especially one like Maidstone Borough Council. As Senior Information Governance Officer, you will support our Data Protection Officer and Corporate Insight, Communities and Governance Manager in making sure we comply with data protection, freedom of information and environmental information regulations.
In this key role, you will manage our complaints and information functions around relevant issues of legislative compliance. You will also be responsible for managing two members of staff: An Information Governance Officer and an Information Governance Support Assistant. You’ll ensure efficient and accurate management of Council complaints and requests made under the Data Protection Act 2018/GDPR, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004, as well as any data breaches. We’ll rely on you to maintain excellent records and monitoring of complaint investigations and information; risks, issues, incidents, right requests and queries. You’ll also provide support and expertise in shaping important pieces of work - from data protection impact assessments, to data sharing agreements. Managers will look to you for high quality technical expert advice, and you’ll produce and present reports for Council leaders.
To join us, you will need experience and knowledge spanning every aspect of information governance regimes and policy development, records management, retention, and investigating complaints on breaches of confidentiality. Naturally, we will expect you to have an excellent understanding of data protection legislation, and approaches to mitigating related risks. Your organisational skills and attention to detail are more than matched by your communication skills. Having worked in local government or another public authority, you are used to working collaboratively and building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders at different levels.
The Council considers this to be a customer focused role and the ability to converse at ease with customers adapting communication style to suit differing audiences and provide advice in accurate spoken English is fundamental to the role.
Maidstone Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all employee and volunteers to share this commitment.
This is a full time position on a permanent contract. This role at the Council attracts the benefits of hybrid working with the ability to combine a balance of home and office working.
