One of the ways Youth Empowerment Service achieves this is through running Youth Zones which offer open access and targeted sessions for groups of young people aged 9-25yrs, run by teams of qualified youth workers, delivering a shared curriculum of activities designed to support social and emotional learning.

This is role is an exciting opportunity to join the Stratford Youth Zone team, as part of the broader Youth Empowerment Service, within a diverse borough with the highest demographic of young people aged under 25 years old in London. The Stratford Youth Zone uses the creative arts as the principle vehicle for supporting social and emotional learning (principally music, drama, dance, visual and digital arts).

Working to a remit set by either a Senior Youth, post holders will be responsible for delivering Newham’s universal and targeted youth services, providing young people with practical support, mentoring, learning, information and guidance that equips them with the skills and capabilities they will require as they transition into adulthood.

You will be passionate about supporting young people achieve their full potential through quality youth work, have extensive experience of working with children and young people and be able to evidence how you have worked to improve successful outcomes with them.

You will enjoy working collaboratively, both within the Stratford Youth Zone team, across the Youth Empowerment Service, with other Council services as well as with external organisations.

You will have an understanding of the contemporary challenges young people face and be able to develop high impact services which will promote opportunities for young people to develop social and emotional learning.

You will be able to demonstrate your experience in creative youth work offers and be passionate about the possibilities that engaging in the arts holds to positively impact young people’s social and emotional development.

Specifically the post holder will be responsible for:

1. Inputting in to the development of Newham’s Youth Service Curriculum;

2. Delivering innovative approaches to engaging young people in shaping and participating in the activities offered as part of the Youth Service Curriculum, with the aim of raising the overall level of participation in Youth Service activity to 20% of 9 – 19 year olds;

3. Supporting the Senior Youth Worker and/or the Detached Senior Youth Worker in developing, delivering and reviewing of relevant elements of the youth offer (centre-based, outreach and detached), ensuring value for money and that Youth Services activity directly enhances the life chances of young people; and

4. Alongside partners, delivering activities targeted at individuals / groups in need of particular support, including prioritising support for young people with multiple needs and facing barriers to participating in universal provision.
