Our recently adopted Local Plan has always been about more than planning just for homes and jobs. It’s about creating communities. This means planning for new and improved roads and transport infrastructure; and new community facilities and services, such as schools, nurseries, shops, sport and leisure facilities. We will be embarking on an early review of the Plan and these ambitions will remain but will need to be set in the context of managing the ambitions established by an Arc Spatial Framework.
We are currently planning to deliver up to 39,000 new homes and 24,000 new jobs over the next 20 years. Our aim is to deliver the growth in a way that respects and maintains the character of Central Bedfordshire and delivers infrastructure and services to support it and maintain the environmental qualities of the area that our communities value so highly.
This is an exciting opportunity to work for an Authority that will be at the heart of an area which will be expected to deliver nationally important outcomes yet maintain its distinctiveness, a challenging ambition. To do this you will shape the future of a number of large-scale new developments and influence what they could bring to the area for its residents its environment and economy. You will take ownership of and project manage strategic scale projects and provide a closely managed, co-ordinated approach to see your project through while ensuring they respond to the strategic issues that we face. You will bring skill, ambition and talent and we will provide the opportunities to quickly develop your career.
You will provide scrutiny to what is proposed, manage both positive and negative input from key stakeholders, including Member(s), land-owners and residents and negotiate to get the best outcomes the Council and its residents.
You’ll have a degree or masters in a Town Planning or related discipline, with significant experience dealing with large scale, complex projects, ideally with both local authority and private sector experience. With demonstrable project management experience, you will be confident communicating with all level of stakeholders of grand scale applications and highly effective negotiation skills.
