More about the role:

The Strategic Safeguarding Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective strategic and operational functioning of the Central Bedfordshire Safeguarding Children Board by providing advice, guidance and support to the Board members and partners. This multi-agency forum ensures the three statutory safeguarding partner agencies collaborate to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children in the local area as laid out in Working Together 2018. 

As the Strategic Safeguarding Manager, you will be part of the Central Bedfordshire Council Children’s Services Professional Standards Service, reporting to the Head of Professional Standards and Principal Social Worker. A Safeguarding Children Board Business Support Officer will report to you and provide support in delivery of the service. This is a fixed term position of 18 months from 1 November 2021, secondments are invited.

The Strategic Safeguarding Manager plans, implements, reviews and evaluate multi-agency activity to ensure great outcomes for families using up to date knowledge of relevant legislation, research and best practice. You will contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of multi-agency service improvement plans.

Central Bedfordshire Council is committed to serving all residents and ensuring vulnerable residents are supported and safeguarded.  As Strategic Safeguarding Manager you will be supporting this outcome by making sure that the multi-agency partnership is well briefed and responsive to local and national issues so that services are responsive and effective.  The role is unusual, challenging, and exciting role.  This is because the responsibilities and duties are varied and wide, including driving the operational activity of the Safeguarding Board as well as supporting strategic oversight. 

An ability to lead and communicate in respect of policy analysis, application of legislation, and evaluation and interpretation of a broad range of data is required for this post. For this reason, the successful applicant will be qualified to degree level (Level 5) or equivalent. Experience and awareness of safeguarding issues is required, and experience of leading effective service development is essential.
