3 x Gardeners (Waltham Abbey)
Salary: £19,794 - £20,391
Hours: Average 36 per week but are seasonally adjusted.
Holiday entitlement: 28 days per annum plus seasonally adjusted allowance.
The Council is looking to recruit 3 x gardeners to join its Grounds Maintenance Service at our Town Mead Depot in Waltham Abbey.
The work will involve the maintenance of highway verges, communal housing estates, back gardens, recreation areas and similar open spaces across the Epping Forest District.
The successful candidates will be required to work as part of a small mobile team carrying out day to day duties which will include the use of relevant mechanical gardening equipment such as garden strimmer’s, mowers, blowers and hedgecutters.
The work also includes the use of ride on lawnmowers, the maintenance of shrub and rose beds, chemical and manual weed control and some soft landscaping including bedding out.

These are full time positions and the hours seasonally adjusted to reflect the requirements of the service Typically the hours during the summer months (February to October) are 7am – 4pm Monday – Thursday and 7am – 3.30pm on a Friday. During the Winter period (October to February) the hours are 7.30am – 2.45pm Monday-Thursday.
A suitable applicant would ideally have experience of working within grounds maintenance, landscaping or the general outdoor environment and be able to demonstrate their reliability for the hours of work and safe working practices You should have good communication skills and a positive ‘can do’ attitude to work, with the ability to get along with members of the public and other staff members.
Some IT skills would also be an advantage as would an ability to read maps and understand written works instructions.
You will be required to drive and be responsible for a Council vehicle therefore, possession of a full clean driving license is essential. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an E.F.D.C. internal driving assessment.
