Brighter Futures for Children (BFfC) is improving outcomes for Reading's children, young people and families.

We are an independent, not-for-profit-company, wholly owned by Reading Borough Council. Our responsibility is to deliver quality children's services, early help, education and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) services in the borough.

Role Responsibilities:

  • To contribute to the leadership and management of the Psychology Service, including the supervision and line-manage main-grade educational psychologists and staff in other services (eg: Autism Advisors, Portage) as appropriate.
  • Contribute to, and lead on areas of the Educational Psychology Service Development Plan, including the training and support offer to settings, quality assurance and innovative practice.  
  • To provide consultation, assessment, advice and intervention regarding the education, behaviour and well-being of children and young people aged 0-25, working in partnership with children, parents and teachers.
  • To assist schools in developing effective approaches to meeting special educational needs.
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of Brighter Futures for Children policy and practice in relation to children’s educational development and well-being, with particular regard to SEND.
  • To write psychological advice, within specified timescales, for statutory assessments.

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • A Masters or Doctorate qualification in Educational Psychology.
  • Eligibility for Health Professionals Council (HCPC) registration.
  • The ability to travel around Reading.

 

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Experience of working as an Educational Psychologist within a Local Authority.
  • Experience of working in a range of educational settings across the age range.
  • Experience working with other professionals within and beyond education services.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of educational psychology and its application in practice
  • Knowledge of legislation relating to children and young people, Special Educational Needs and Disability and Mental Health
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

 

Preferred knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Experience of supervising and managing staff.
  • Experience of developing and managing projects
